I have an AKAI MPK5000+ I can never get Cubase LE8 to work. It either crashes the entire computer, or freezes within five minutes. The MPK4000 had the same problem, and I returned it to AKAI for a refund. They couldn’t be bothered to fix it.
I bought one of those brick like keyboards that the late lamented Korg made. I have been sold out on Steinberg for many years, so it may be time to look around. Sometimes the product has to be so good before someone will pay attention to it. I wonder if Steinberg could actually learn from all of the other companies making audio software? I was really looking forward to a FREE upgrade to Cubase LE8, and I have found it useful so far, but I haven’t tested every feature yet. I think they learned enough to make a good first release.
I have found Cubase to be incredibly simple to use once you understand what to do. In fact, for an audio professional working on a limited budget, I think Steinberg’s product is one of the best available (aside from maybe Propellerhead).
I work in a technical field but find Steinbergs process of install and setup to be rather daunting, confusing, frustrating and simply not worth the time wasted. How easy do you think it will be for someone who is new to the techie world. They simply will not survive this. Its for this very reason that so many have turned to purchasing other manufacturers DAWs. Really too bad because Cubase has an expansive feature set, IF YOU CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT WORK.
The three of us who have the M-Audio with Cubase LE8 are geographically dispersed-the thinking was to generate files (music) and collaborate with no regard to distance. Operating systems, secure drop boxes,VPNs and File transfers over the internet have taken care of the distance. The glitch is the software being used (or trying to be used). To answer your question would I be tempted to BUY software from Steinberg The answer would be a resounding No.
